WEEK 2 REFLECTION
This week, we were introduced to Mahatma Gandhi's famous quote "Be the change you wish to see in the world". We were introduced to the idea that changing your inner self and actions, will change the world eventually. Others leaders believed in this philosophy as well, including Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr. and Christ, and others. We learned about the history of social change, and how new methods aid in old social issues.
There were many areas that sparked my interest this week. Creating social change has been around for a very long time, I particularly enjoyed learning that no one answer is wrong or no one answer is completely right. Solutions to world issues are easily fixed. Force equality can lead to great inequality. I especially enjoyed the Ted Talk "Inside the Mind of a College Social Innovator". This video made me hopeful seeing the different college students with backgrounds and majors that were not particularly social innovation majors were able to connect to social change. I loved seeing how their studies and experience can indeed allow them to be a catalyst for change in their particular area. This helped me dive deeper into my particular skills and experiences that may not be so obvious to connect to social change and how I can bring that to the forefront.
Jeffrey Thompson's "What is Your Calling in Life?" article and some connections to Social Innovation. There are many areas for Social Change and needs, one can feel lost, the need to search for what issue to fall on. Similar to the journey one has when trying to find their calling or purpose in life. In the article, Thompson mentioned that Luther noted that your calling can be anything in life or any type of work as long as it is service to man.
